hey guys so i was wondering what my chances were at us MD medical colleges and whether top 20 could be possible.
My current gpa is 3.56. and math sci is 3.51
freshmen year was 3.3 and sophomore year was 3.8cum
i have a burning rage now :diebanana:to destroy every class i take. clearly freshmen year i didnt. plan on two years of 17 credit semesters of 4.0 no joke (or somehting like that). so hopefully 3.7 cum and math sci when i apply if not higher. also should i consider gap year? probably right?

obviously mcat is a huge factor but have not taken yet... so basically am in on the right path.

i have 40hrs hospital volunteering... more this summer and next year.
one semester of research, one summer of research, and next year researching with my cell bio professor whose class i got an A in (hopefully good rec)
co-founder of microlending club.. we have over 30 members. plan to be accredited next semester.
Working at homeless shelter this summer.
Working at free clinic next year as well. and hopefully shadow this summer/ next year.

recs should be good too if not great.
i am definitley willing to gap year if that helps my chances too.

**** freshmen year
thanks!

also with gap year, when should i take mcat

You just finished sophomore year, you haven't taken the MCAT and nearly your entire "profile" is planned or speculative. We don't have enough information to give you any meaningful response. Come back near the end of junior year when you have accomplished the tasks you've set for yourself. "Top 20" is still possible, but as you stand a gap year looks likely.

really? with a 3.56? I don't think so. If he does well in the next 2 semesters, he could have near a 3.7 and assuming that he does well on the MCAT top 20 is definitely possible.

docbert and hemmorage thank you very much for your responses. i really appreciate it.

yes i know my profile is speculative but just making sure i still am in the running.
and i do not have a problem with a gap year so i can really raise everything up and gain more hours of EC's.

Docbert... i plan to do a lot of hours at the homeless shelter, i am not sure yet the schedule tho.
Also, I will try and get around 60 hours of volunteering in every semester from now.
And regarding shadowing, i have TRIED SO HARD to get an oppurtunity. I've called countless numbers of docs, ive asked family friends etc etc. Do you guys know of any way to get an oppurtunity to shadow.

and hemmorage. when you said i dont think so were you referring to when docbert said we dont have enough info.

one last thing. if i have all of these things will i be an applicant that top 20 med schools will want. I mean a lot of kids probably have these stats if not better. so what can i try and make my unique side. is the microlending something along those lines.

okay will definitley try to attain more leadership roles.

also can u chance me at umass medical. i am in state from massachusetts and would be interested in this school as well.
thanks
