I am a double engineering major and have taken solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, soil mechanics labs (all 3 unit / 1 credit) and materials lab (6 unit / 2 credit). I wonder if these individually or together could count as the physics lab requirement. Trying to avoid a 66 unit senior spring. Thanks in advance

Well this was my situation at my university: took Physics 1 (didn't have a lab) and Physics 2 with lab, so was missing one lab. Despite being in engineering and having taken similar labs as you, my pre-health committee required all pre-med engineers to take an intro physics lab that was just 1 credit. This is just my own experience though, not sure how much help that is without talking to an adviser or adcom member who knows more.

Engineering classes do not count as BCPM, so I don't think an engineering lab would count as the physics lab requirement. Double check with your pre-med advisor if they're knowledgable, or better yet you can call a school's admissions office and get an official word.

...why are you a double engineering premed...? 😕😕😕

Depends on the med school. In any case, this'll only become an issue when you matriculate, not apply, and I don't see a school making a big deal out of an engineering lab not being a physics lab.

It's pretty obnoxious to me that med schools seem to take such a hard line on things like this when they claim to be trying to take a holistic approach to filling their classes.

Out of curiosity, did you AP/test out of intro physics? I was also an engineering major, and physics (1 and 2 with labs) was one of the few classes everyone in the E-school was required to take. I believe my statics and mechanics classes all had physics 1/2 as prereqs

LOL Maybe I am just a masochist. I wanted to be a civil engineer and discovered it wasn't for me, so I added biomedical engineering, then determined medical school was the best route. Going to graduate on time but have to take a gap year in order to have time to apply.

Very interesting point on the matriculation though. I guess no stress then and if they go back and say I have to take into physics lab I can just do a quick summer one.

I got a 4 on physics C mechanics which did not result in credit 😵. The physics classes here do not have labs and engineers are not required to take an intro physics lab.
