Hey all,

At my school we have a foundational writing requirement called "Writing the Essay" which obviously counts towards the semester of required English for medical school. It is also a "freshman level course", where its not REQUIRED to take freshman year, it's just that most freshman do take it freshman year. Similarly, the advising office and such frowns upon taking it later.

Will medical schools look down on this too if I take it senior year? An advisor just told me it would look really bad taking a freshman level course as a senior. I've never thought of such a thing, especially as I thought I had the freedom in the way I arranged my schedule.

Thanks in advance

The pre-req at most med schools is 1 year of humanities/social studies/lit. Unless you have absolutely no humanities classes whatsoever, I think you'll be fine.

Yea I have a couple already. I plan on taking it even though it's not this year, and maybe even senior year. Does it matter in the eyes of admissions officers that I pushed off this mandatory English requirement (both for medical school and for my gen ed itself) until senior year?

How would they even know that it's a mandatory English requirement for your university?

They receive a pamphlet from the university indicating course listings and such, especially since the university is so large.

Do they really? I have never heard of this before.

I took an intro to ASL class my last semester. I took a freshman level history course my senior year. I took a sophomore level communication course my senior year. I took a barely sophomore level biology course my senior year.

They're not going to care.
