During my undergrad in engineering we had a "technical writing" course. Will this satisfy the english requirement at most/any medical schools?

Was it offered by the English department? You'll have to check with the schools as some are sticklers for it being a particular department's offering.

I have decide to do the english classes because with my engineering background, english is not one of my strengths. Prior to deciding on med school, | took Gmat and found out that I was not scoring more than 4/6. That was not bad but not great either

I really don't think technical writing for engineers would comply with the english requirement. You are better off by taking a course offered by the english department. When I took the technical writing course, my teacher had a thick french accent and would use French articles as examples during class!

A couple of schools waived it for me based on a completed Ph.D. thesis. Contact each school individually and ask. It's only a formality, but it can also be used as an excuse to reject you.

Are distance courses offered by a university acceptable to meet the english requirement? Is there any stigma attached to these courses?
