At the end of the "Academic Coursework" page, PTCAS ask applicants to "Indicate If This Course Fulfills a Core PT Prerequisite."

There is a scroll bar to click on which allows you to select from a a list of pre-reqs (i.e., None, Biology I with Lab, Biology II with Lab, Behavioral Sciences I, Behavioral Sciences II).

Now right below the scroll bar, it says "Generally, you should match only one course to each core PT prerequisite. Read the instructions for this section."

My questions is: Do you list the course that would give the highest GPA or do you list the most basic/introductory course that does not necessary give you the best GPA???

For example: I took Into to Pyschology (B, over 10 years ago), Human Development and Sociology (both A, and recent). Am I allow list Human Development and Sociology under Behavioral Sciences I & II???

Also, Can I select Microbiology Lecture & Lab (in replace of Gen Biology I & Lab that I took over 10 years ago) for my Biology I with Lab core pre-req???

that is exactly what i did. I took 4 psychology classes and I chose the ones I got the highest grades in. Of course the courses that I chose as my psych classes were all accepted by the schools i applied to.

thanks. what do you think about microbiology for the biology core prereq?

I dont think micro would be acceptable for gen bio pre-req, however, you should contact your schools for more info

In the instructions it says to only match PT prerequisites to introductory courses for the science courses and not to match them to upper (300-400) courses. So if microbiology is counted as an upper level biology at your school, you probably can't put it on the form as a prerequisite. I hope that helps.

What about for psychology classes...I read the same thing, but was not sure if it is meant for non sciences. For example, I got a B in General Psych (freshman year slacking...), but got A's in abnormal and some other upper division psychology classes. Can I use those for my psych pre req's? I called PTCAS today and they were not very helpful...

It depends on your school. Some schools require general psych and any additional psych....so it's really up to you/your school.

SOOOOOOOOOO, some schools want gen psy, abnormal and developmental. Others just want gen. One school on my list requires eng 101/102, math. At the bottom of the page when asked if required prereq.there is no selection for psych/ math/eng. Do I assume the specific school will review the transcripts and look for their prereq? I know I should call.

Hey I had the same question as the original one asked and was wondering if anyone had any other feedback. Some schools require specifically general psych and then an additional but others require Abnormal and child psychology. I took four classes: general, abnormal, child, and sports. I received my highest grades in child and sports psychology but am not sure if I should put the classes that will give me a higher GPA or General and and abnormal psychology. I asked this question to PTCAS but they said they couldn't help me with that question.

From what I understand schools look at all of the courses you've taken and calculate the prereq GPA for their program based on their requirements, so it shouldn't matter too much what you designate as core prerequisites in PTCAS.
