Can anyone, who has graduated recently, comment on the market for EP. I am interested in EP and think I am most likely going into academics, but even when I look online for opportunities in the private market it seems they are far and few between. I know this may not be the best way to look, so I am posting here to fellows or any EP that can comment on the job market.

I'm not in EP, but what I hear from people in the field is thus. Regarding ablations, while AFib is very common, the current ablation procedure can be very time consuming and reimbursement may or may not be very viable in a non-academic setting. Ablations for pre-excitation pathologies is highly effective and can be shorter in duration, but the prevalence is not very high.

Regarding devices, there are a lot of non-EP Cardiologists putting in pacers. Some of these people don't do ICD's and few do BiV devices. So again, there is a niche, but the question is, how much room is there before the market is saturated with EP trained physicians.

That is the hard question to answer, and it likely depends on where and how (private/academic) you want to practice.

Good luck!
