I'm a general cardiology fellow that's having some major internal conflict--
I'm torn btwn an invasive career vs doing further 2 year training in EP; not interested in
interventional b/c of the lifestyle and overall I don't find intervention as mentally stimulating as I'd like. However, I'm sick and tired of training, (so is my wife!), and looking to try to weigh the pros and con's of EP vs an invasive career.

So far, the only con I really hear about EP is a questionable job market for pure EP jobs (which I'm ok with doing some general cardiology if I have to) and personally, 2 extra years of training.

My program is a top tier program in the midwest with a high volume facility, so I'm not interested in leaving unless it's for a job opportunity elsewhere. I have a high likelihood of staying here for fellowship if I choose to do so.

Any suggestions? Is there something I"m not looking at? what would you do?

went through the same process
bottom line the peopel i know that did ep got good jobs only in very remote places i would not want to live in - if your #1 thing is just to live out life in an EP lab and you dont care where it is then do EP,
but the job opps will be slim and very high prob of not so great pay and lots of hussling to make a buck
not that gen cards is so great these days either with groups holding off on hiring till they see what happens with obamacare, but there are probably 10 times as many jobs right now, though the ones that pay well are also not in such a great location
not an easy decision but the 600K EP job wherever you want it to be is gone now, they just oversaturated the market and that is a serious factor you have to consider becuase as soon as you finish fellowship that is the reality staring you in the face
i chose not to do EP in the end because of all of these factors

Appreciate the reply, I've got some thinking to do!
