I just started working as a scribe for an IM practice and I'm hoping to get any tips and tricks from more experienced users, they just started using it a little over a year ago. Maybe certain smartphrases you commonly use or whatever else you think may be helpful. I was thinking of having a smartphrase that could pull up any abnormal labs from the most recent, but I don't think that exists.

one issue that where I think there are stock Epic phrases, the stock ones are fairly easy to find in whatever info they give you

the good stuff tends to be optimized per institution and user, and that isn't cross platform

you could copy pasta a template from another user, and it would probably be useful everywhere except where it auto pulls in any number of things

some things I expect are the same everywhere like .name etc

Would you happen to know the abbreviation for VitD to pull it up using a smartphrase like .labrecent? I tried several, but they didn't work at all.

there's a way to scroll through like every dot phrase in existence on your EHR, if you're clever you can sometimes pick out the ones you want.

.lastlabx[INSERTLABNAMEHERE:X (X = # of lab results you want to get)

You'll definitely have to find what Vitamin D is called in your flavor of Epic. But once you do, make your own smartphrase from it called .vitd and you're done. I have literally hundreds of these. If there's a lab I ever want to trend, I've got a smartphrase for it.

Remember to use your initials or something else that is unique to you when making a dot phrase to make it easier to navigate and edit later on when needed

the best way to deal with this bar none, is to spend time (that you don't have, yes) playing around in the EHR, and calling whoever is the support contact person, not asking on SDN

not trying to be mean or rude, just saying what is more high yield

Do you have Epic trainers on site?
At our location we can ask one of them to round with us and give us “on the go” tips of how to be more efficient
