This week I was diagnosed with simple partial seizures; because of Thanksgiving plans, they'll be ruling out potential causes, at least the scary ones, this week. . . Anyway, I've had no loss of consciousness, but it occurs to me that if I'm not able to drive a car without some future okay, there may be more significant implications behind becoming an "epileptic," officially. The seizures aren't awful or incapacitating: I've had horrible errors in my spelling of words that I recognize once I see what I've written, chilling feelings of déja vu and an accompanying sense clairvoyance that I had actually assumed must be the beginnings of psychosis, and some vision problems--nothing debilitating, but not nothing.

So anyway, trying to avoid the doctor suspecting that I'm just a neurotic with a pathology textbook, I haven't mentioned that I'll be starting med school next fall; that can come up tomorrow, I guess. Just wondering, then, since I haven't begun to discuss how this diagnosis may affect my life, do any of you have epilepsy, and if so, how might it affect your residency options? Thanks
