I am confused about which product to purchase. It looks like Epocrates SxDx is pretty similar to the 5MCC, and Epocrates even admits to partnering with 5MCC to develop SxDx. As a 3rd year student, is Epocrates Essentials a good enough product, or does 5MCC have more features so that I should buy it also?

Epocrates is pretty good all around, though at times it tries too hard to be anything other than a pharm reference. But Labs, DDX, an abbreviated version of 5MCC, multiple calculators makes it better in general. But it does not take the place of a good reference such as 5MCC.

You can download trial versions of each - though I think for Epocrates you can only use the free version which disables the other functions.

Using this code: COSGP06 (exp. unk.) will give you 50% off Epocrates products.

Perhaps this will enable you to get both, as the Epocrates discount might bring the total price down to something bearable.

I'm pretty sure the epocrates software is a yearly subscription whereas 5MCC is yours once you buy it and does not "run out". I really like the way 5MCC is set up.

One of the products in Epocrates literally IS 5mCC. Not sure if that is the SxDx you're describing, though.

Just for what it's worth, I have 5MCC and I did not find it very usefull. There is a lot of stuff that it does not have.

Have you considered Up to date. I believe the cost for a single membership is comparable to 5MCC.

worked for me 7/23...thanks for your help!

thanks for the heads up about that 50% off code

I want to get just the SxDx part, but I have a Mac. The ePocrates site says that for a Mac I can only get epocrates essentials and not just the SxDx part separately. Does anybody know more about this?

Could I get the SxDx only (along with the free Rx I already have) and download/install to my Palm via a Windows machine but then use my Mac for the regular HotSync updating in the future?
I don't want to pay for the whole thing when all I really want is the SxDx.

Thanks
