Submitting an abstract (likely to be accepted, abstracts have been accepted in the past) to an AANS conference.

I have the option of presenting an oral or electronic poster presentation (basically just sits on their website without actually presenting anything in person).

Is there an advantage in terms of residency applications for doing an oral poster presentation?

I don't mind doing an oral one but if there's no advantage then I mite as well do the e-poster so I don't have to travel and lose some study time.

Thanks!

Even if there's no advantage for residency (I haven't been through the process), it'd still be a good experience and good practice. I'm sure there will be plenty of times later in your career that you'll have to present something, and this is a good forum and a great opportunity. Just take the chance! You can plan your studying if you know you won't be able to. Plus, it could be a good networking opportunity? I'm sure you'll be able to talk to other doctors there and give you a chance to ask them about their career.

Although...if you have to pay for travel...I can see why you wouldn't do it haha.

Oral presentation >> poster presentation in the research world. Primarily because it's harder to get selected for an oral presentation.

Now, if by oral presentation, you mean you're simply going to be there next to your poster during a several-hour window to explain it, that's basically just a poster presentation and I would argue that there's no significant difference between that and the e-poster. The oral presentation I'm referring to are the ones where you have a 15-30 min time chunk where you have to give a powerpoint presentation to a group of people and answer questions afterward. At least, that's been my experience. Others can chime in with something different.

Thanks for the advice so far. Yea if I decided to go, it would be a poster presentation at the conference just standing next to it, not an oral presentation.

And thanks for the clarification about oral vs. poster presentations...didnt know that
