Good evening!

I was wondering if someone could explain to me when we use the Law of mass action vs ICE tables. I've been doing a few problems where I've been solving the problem wrong because I did not use an ICE table. Thanks!

The law of mass action is a kinetic phenomenon whereas ICE tables are related to thermodynamic phenomena. That is, for problems that have to do with systems at equilibrium or asking you for a system's composition at equilibrium, then ICE tables are appropriate. Perhaps if you cite a specific example, you might get a more specific answer.
