Not another one!

A 31 year-old emergency room doctor for Genesis Hospital in Zanesville is among more than 100 arrested as part of a human trafficking sting in Central Ohio.
According to court records, Austin Kosier of Columbus was arrested Tuesday and posted bond at $10,085 following his arraignment in Franklin County Municipal Court Wednesday morning.
He is charged with one fourth-degree felony count of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and one fifth-degree felony count of importuning.
Kosier first joined the Genesis staff in 2018 after graduating from The University of Toledo College of Medicine in 2015 and completing his residency at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2018, according to a page that is no longer available on the Genesis Healthcare System website.

Weird to think he just graduated from OSU. Wonder what it’s like to train with someone for 3 years then find out they’re a child molester

20 years ago my paramedic instructor (who we all loved) was arrested over Christmas break in a child sex sting. It was unnerving for sure, but when we looked at some of the things he did and said in hindsight, it kinda made sense..

A subset of people suck.
ER doctors are people.
Ergo, a subset of ER doctors suck. There's nothing magical about our training that makes us immune.

You're right, but it makes for great headlines when someone with a lot of education, money, or power is found to have failed in society. It makes for great news ratings.

Sad. He had such a bright future. Hopefully he finds help and does not do something impulsive, irrational again.

I also hope this was his first time and he's never traumatized a child before, and never benefitted from child pornography made during the process of others traumatizing and exploiting children before. But somehow I doubt that's the case.

Characterizing it as "impulsive" sounds rather...generous and unfair to victims of this type of crime. It's not like he drove by a white van with "FREE KIDDOS" spray painted across the side and said aw, what the heck, I've been really good lately, I deserve this, I'll go back to not raping children tomorrow. At the very least, he devoted time to seeking out these opportunities online, then very clearly bypassed the cognitive stop point when it came time to get into his car and drive to the location where he was going to rape a child.

I do however sincerely hope that he himself was never the victim of sexual abuse, as I hope to be the case with everyone.
