I am helping a friend edit his personal statement and CV for ERAS. He has family members that are physicians in other countries and mentions working for them in his CV and growing up as a physician's child in his personal statement.

I would like to tell him to be careful in terms of talking about physicians in his family too much, as some program directors may view him as trying to use nepotism to gain a position.

aProgramdirector what do you think should I keep my mouth shut or say something?

It's really not going to matter much. It depends on how it's done. If he/she talks about working with their family member and what they got out of it, it can be fine. If they write "I worked with Dr. XXX whom everyone knows is totally the best neurosurgeon in the whole world (see references at end of PS) and they said I'm really good", then that's not so good.

A PS all about your doctor family members is often pretty boring.

LOR's from family members are not acceptable.

Thank you for the response aProgDirector.
