Hi all, I tried posting this in the allopathic forum but wasn't sure if it belonged there, so I'm also posting this here:

I tried searching for this but my searches didn't produce satisfactory results.... Does anyone have an idea of the general timeline for ERAS applications, interviews, etc. As I understand it, ERAS opened July 1st (so we can start working on our applications online now), and we can start applying to residency programs September 1st. When do we start getting offers for interviews for the regular Match - before or after Dean's Letters go out November 1st? I know interview season is roughly November through January/February, but how late does it extend? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Interview offers can be any time from 9/1 to January depending on your app and the programs you're applying to. I got my first offer on 9/5 and my last offer/rejections in mid-December. Interview season generally runs through the end of January, with ROLs due in mid-Feb, most programs (particularly larger ones like Med, Peds and Surg) like to have some time to tweak their lists so then generally won't be interviewing people in February.

My own experience was that I had a handful of interviews in late November, and the bulk of them in the first 3 weeks of December (12 in 16 days or something like that) with a few stragglers in early January. If you can, interview in the places you think you most want to match at in mid-season. That way, you've had a chance to make a fool of yourself at some places you didn't care much about but you're not yet too burnt out from travelling and talking about how much you love medicine (or whatever it is you're doing) to make a good impression.

Good luck,

hey man,

thanks for your reply. so it sounds like you started getting interview offers in early september - way before dean's letters went out. did you get the bulk of your interview offers after the dean's letter, or is the dean's letter more of a formality than a milestone in the application process? thanks for your help and comments!

YMMV of course but I had about 1/4 of my offers prior to the dean's letter coming out. Then, about 48h after the dean's letter dropped I got about 2/3 of the remaining ones with the last small fraction trickling in over the next 4 weeks.

are transcripts loaded into ERAS by sept 1?

When transcripts are uploaded into your ERAS file depends on your school's policies.

Transcripts technically can be uploaded into ERAS immediately after you register your token. You don't need to apply to programs before your transcripts are uploaded.

If your school uploads your transcript soon after you register your ERAS token, you can be sure the transcript is sent immediately after you apply to programs.

Interviews are typically given based on transcripts, board scores, and MSPEs. So the sooner you send your transcript and board scores, the sooner you can expect an interview (if you're a competitive candidate).

If you're "on the bubble", you may need to wait until your MSPE is released to score an interview.

My census made it sound like, there is at least 1. Doesn't tell you how many.

Did you just dig out a thread that's 7 years old?

Chances are the OP is an attending practicing out in Idaho by now. :/

Not only did he bump a 7yo thread, but he did it with nonsense, followed up with a nonsense explanation for the nonsense.

Post of the year?

So far, yes.

It's only non-sense if you don't know what he's talking about. I got it FFM 👍
