Hi there, I'm a Canadian medical student interested in participating in the NRMP match and wanted to ask about ERAS deadlines. I'm hoping this SDN forum can help me out here 🙂

My understanding is that ACGME-accredited residency programs begin accepting applications September 15 and MSPEs are released to programs October 1, but I can't seem to find a clear indication of when all application materials are due to ERAS/programs. In some places, I see a deadline of October 1 and at other places October 31. This would suggest that the deadlines are different depending on the program. Is this true? If so, does ERAS list these program-specific dates somewhere? Would this also mean that for the later deadlines (e.g. October 31), I can submit a more updated transcript to those programs to reflect any additional completed electives during that time?

Thanks for your help in advance!

(At first I read this title as "ERAS Deadliness." It's been a long day, lol).

Yeah, so you can submit everything to programs on Sept 15, and although the programs may accept different items until later times, you should still submit everything you have control over on day 1. The later deadlines are usually for LORs, since they know that's out of your hands for the most part. You can find this info on (most) every program's residency application page. Also, your school uploads your transcript, and it depends on their policy if they will update after they've uploaded it (mine wouldn't).

But again, do everything you can to have all of your application ready to go as soon as you can, because every day you don't submit or get it complete enough to their standards is another day that other people could be taking your interview spot.

I agree with Chillbo 100%. Anything that you can directly control the submission of should be uploaded by September 15. That being said, you should definitely submit your application of September 15, even if it isn't totally complete. You can update most of it as you go if need be, except for whatever your school submits for an MSPE, so it's better to just get your name out to programs as soon as possible, and then supplement with material like LOR's from procrastinating preceptors.
