Hi everyone
i hope someone can help me with this question.
I'm having an issue with recommendation letters. I applied for psychiatry and pathology on eras on sept 1. the problem is i designated one of my letters, that is a letter from a psychiatrist, to the path programs. I thought this letter would be a more general letter but in it it says i want to be a psychiatrist;etc---some of the path programs i applied to already uploaded that letter. So my question is: is there any way i can delete that letter from their computer systems or whatever
and does that look really bad ---to have a letter saying i want to be a psychiatrist when i'm applying for path programs.
luckily i didn't send my path letter to the psyc programs

You're SOL. Once the programs have the letter, its theirs. You cannot take it back. You can unassign it to the programs who have NOT already downloaded it however.

No, you cannot delete it from the programs' files. If they have downloaded it but not printed a hard copy, who knows, it might get deleted somehow, but likely it's out of your hands now. All you can do is unassign it from all the path programs so it won't be downloaded anymore.

As for confronting this issue, you should talk to an adviser, dean, or program director at your school for ideas on how to proceed. It might make sense to preemptively contact the path programs; otherwise they may either toss your file or make your interview day quite awkward as they ask about the psych letter.

What if the letter is 'available but not retrieved' meaning that the school uploaded it but the pgm didn't dl it yet----do those programs still have access to the letter?
thanx

If they haven't downloaded them yet, are you able to unassign them?

Yes...and do it NOW. You can unassign it to ones who already got it too...so they cannot re-download it if they lose your file or something (weird things happen). Definitely worth a try.

You can add a new PS by using that button on Eras and apply this to the programs you want and uncheck the other box to unassign it. Eras will only send one letter so no matter how many it shows (downloaded) they will only see one. You shouldnt be in that bad a position as they hopefully have not printed and read them yet.
