I had a question about ERAS. When I click on the apply to programs button, that means that the programs can see whatever parts of my application I have finished right? What exactly can they see? Also, applying to programs is not the same thing as submitting the application, right?

First, you certify (submit) your application. ONce you do this, you can not make further changes. You can still upload LOR's, write personal statements, etc.

Once your application is certified, then you can assign it to programs. When you do so, you get to choose what each program gets to see. They always get your main application. You can then choose what LOR's, PS's, USMLE's, etc each program gets.

For competive programs we are told that the application should be in on Sept 1.

What parts can one complete before Sept 1 to be ready:

1. Completely fill the appl
2. Certify the appl (how is it different than turning it in, e.g., on Sept 1)
3. Assign to selected programs: PS, UMSLE scores, LOR (can this be done well before Sept 1)

Novice here; any corrections, clarifications appreciated.

Has anyone clicked the "apply to programs" button. What exactly happens when you click the "apply to programs" button?

Never mind I just clicked on it.

Were you going to share or just let someone else make another dumb post asking the same thing?

The answer is...nothing.

I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to a question I have about ERAS. I understand that LOR can be uploaded after you have certified and submitted your application, and even after programs download it. However, can you create new LOR slots after you submit. For instance if I have an away elective in Sept and I want to get a LOR but I could in theory submit my app by Sept 1. Thanks

I have already submitted my application, and after I read your post I was AHHH :scared:...didn't even think about it! However, I checked, and I can still enter a new LOR writer which then lets the registar upload my LOR into ERAS where I can then designate the LOR to a program. Its okay to submit, you CAN still create new LOR writers.

You would think that would be the case anyway/hopefully, since I don't even know who I might get a letter from at the last moment in an early 4th year rotation/sub-I.

On the ERAS application it says to place a check mark if you plan to participate in the NRMP match. I'm not sure if I am going to participate in it, should I check mark the box or not because I want to submit my app, does it matter?

It doesn't matter at all. If you're possibly going to use NRMP, mark yes. It looks a bit weird if I see an app marked no, I assume it's a mistake.
