Actually, I have two questions.

First, once you select the letters you want sent to a given program, can you add (provided you have selected less than the limit of four) another letter to be sent? I am expecting a letter to be uploaded by my dean's office in a week and I want to use it, but I don't want to wait until it's available to select my programs and pay my fees.

Second, for anesthesiology, you often need to apply to preliminary programs. How can you do this? There is no 'preliminary' option, just the various specialties when you apply. I must be missing something. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

yes, your deans office does not need to have everything uploaded prior to your applying. you can list and assign your 4th rec prior to it being uploaded.

secondly, you have to first apply to anesthesia programs...and then choose im or surgery prelims or transitional programs. you need to assign these separately. for example if you are applying to program x for prelim IM. then you need to choose IM and then the school. it usually lists, categorial, prelim, etc. you would choose prelim. same thing applies for surgery prelims. transitional are listed as transitionals.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. One last thing: If you assign a letter to a program, but don't want to use it, what are the conseuqnces? I'm assuming you just de-assign it and, if necessary, assign another one in its place if need be?

yes but realize that your letter may be already downloaded and in your file...so although they will "replace" it with your new letter, they have already read it...and may keep it in your file...
