Hi there!

I've noticed some supplemental essays have the same character count as the main PTCAS essay (4500 characters)
Since they're more specific essays for each program, I'm having trouble getting close to that amount of characters. I'm at about 1,500 to 2,000 characters for those essays.

Is this okay or should I try to add more to my essays to get closer to 4500 characters?

Thank you!

I would get as close to the maximum range as possible. If you can't wow them with an essay that leaves them wanting more but can't go on because of their character cut-off, someone else will. In fact, many applicants will. Double your amount unless the quality of the essay is lacking because you're obviously seeking quantity. 4,500 characters isn't a lot. Hell, this reply that I'm writing is 443 characters, almost 10% of what you need.

From what I have heard from some of the program directors that I've talked to, they care less about the length and more about the content. If you can say what you need to say in a concise 1,500 characters, don't waste their time by adding fluff to get to 4500.

When I read essays, I can always tell when someone added things just for the sake of hitting the character count, and it's never good. If you really can't brainstorm more relevant things to say, keep it well written and short.
