Hello everyone I was wondering if any out of state resident was able to find a way to establish residency some what easily in texas. For example UMDNJ-COM is supposivly easy to establish residency. I read up on the texas residency requirments and they seem rough needing to live 12 months before you apply, and it doesn't count if you are living there and going to school. Is there any one that was able to get around this??

There I know of that some people have gotten in state, but it doesn't work in all cases.

An academic scholarship some times comes with a non-resident tuition waiver. Or, active membership in an Armed Forces Reserve unit. Also, if you are emplyed as a research or teaching assistant, or your spouse is employed by the school at least half time. However, you have to fill out a petition and it is not guaranteed. Did you know that in Texas, even if you are legally adopted by a Texas resident, you don't automatically qualify for in state tuition? You actually have to prove that the adoption did not take place for the purpose of getting in state tuition. They take it sriously there. You may be legally considered a Texas resident for all other purposes, but still not qualify for in state tuition.

All that said, there are several people on SDN who qualify and had great scores, but still didn't make it into Texas schools. OOSers have very little chance.
