hi all

is it a big no-no to interview at program B during one's away rotation at program A? i think i might have a potential situation or two like this come late october and november. some programs are clustered in the same city, so it's tempting to hop on the subway and go.

my gut tells me this is a bad idea, but if program B is instead a transitional program, would it be as bad?

thanks 🙂

Ultimately your reasons for doing an away rotation are two fold (1) to learn something about RadOnc and (2) to try and impress faculty/housestaff that you work with. You are not serving either of these interests by interviewing during your rotation.

On the other hand, nobody will likely ask you where you went. And it is difficult to turn down an interview if you are already in city in question particularly b/c of the financial burden of having have to fly back there later.

Bottom line, I agree with your gut but I doubt it will be a very big deal if you go on that interview.

you do what you have to do. best to be as present as possible at your away rotation, but dont give up an interview day.
just handle it diplomatically and if you do a good job in general it wont be a big issue.
