Hi everyone, can someone tell me what is needed to become licenced pharmacist in US/NYC?

I've read tons of google info, and it seems to me that licenced pharmacist in US is considered as PhD, pharmacy Doctor 6 (4+2) years program.

What would be fastest route and how hard is to become licenced pharmacist in US from EU? How much schooling costs per year and do I need to study for two or just one year for PhD because I've done 5 year schooling here in Europe?

Can I finish my Doctors degree in Europe and than automatically become licenced in US?

And finally is all that worth it, how hard is to get pharmacist job in NYC, are these salaries precise

and what is your overall opinion on this situation?

Sorry for bad English, thanks in advance 🙂

it's not a PhD program. It's a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D). Finish your pharmacy degree in Europe and get your license there.
When you're in US, you just need to do 1500 intern hours and will be eligible to sit for the board exam to get your US license.

So if I become Pharm.D in Europe, then I do not have to do complete schooling for a period of 2 years in US? Only couple of exams and internship?

I am not US citizen, is it too hard to get green card? There is no possibility of getting that job with some kind of visa?

Can some company sponsor immigration?

In practice, it's very difficult for a Bologna Process educated pharmacist to get licensed in the US. Even if you do pass the FPGEC, there isn't a benefit of a doubt to licensing in the US unlike between the Bologna Process countries. You're better off attempting to go to school in the US than in Europe if US licensure is what you want. If you happen to be educated in a Commonwealth nation, it's a bit easier to transfer between different countries in the Commonwealth even outside the Bologna Process recognition.

(That's not to say it doesn't happen, but in the cases I can think of, most of them were Yugoslavian refugees who didn't really have a choice when they arrived here. There are also some Indian and Pakistani transfers, but I know of none recently as the US has clamped down on that, and the politics lately have not been favorable for foreign immigration for professionals.)

I suppose that I need some kind of visa for PharmD studies in US? What could I expect after that in terms of citizenship or potential job? Duration of Doctors degree studies in EU are actually 3 years.

Yes, the standard student visa. However, you will need an employment visa in most areas of the country due to internship requirements. Don't forget lots of money (I'm talking at least in the USD 300k range as you don't have easy access to loans unlike the Americans). Depends, it's a bit risky.

Wow, that's really risky pathway, and first of all I'm not sure that I have that kind of money for US school. Way higher standards than here.

I really appreciate your answers, thanks everyone. Let the topic stay for a while in case I have some more questions.
