I need some input as to what you think my chances are for lower-level med schools:
top 20 uni, cgpa 3.75, sgpa 3.7, mcat 32 (10,11,11)
3 yrs health staff worker (distributed health supplies to ppl at dorm)
2.5 yrs research in neurology (during school) (~3-4hrs/wk)
3 mths summer research in respiratory technology
2 publications (one journal pub at summer research, one at school magazine)
6 mths volunteer children's hospital (3 hrs/wk)
6 mths tutoring kids (~20 hrs) - sort of split into two chunks
3 mths habitat for humanity (~30 hrs)
recently started (past 3 mths) and will restart in june:
hospice (~6 hrs), translating at hospital (spanish) for a class, shadowing cardiac icu(~15 hrs)
think i will interview well, write good essays, but okay or subpar lors. also all of this stuff (except children's hosp) is in the past year.
-----------
couple of questions that i had
1) is there a site or something that tells if a school specifically prefers instate apps? i saw the school selector thing, but i'm not sure if fewer outstate apps simply means fewer ppl from outstate want to go there or if there's actual selection going on.
2) should i retake mcat to make up for weak ecs/low gpa?
3)is there any way to find out if the secondary apps for med schools require anything else? i've heard stories where additional rec letters are needed and i might not be able to get those (quickly)?
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!! and sorry its so long.
