Hi everyone,

I graduated college as a Neuroscience major. Although I was not pre-med back then, my major required me to take most of the requirements. I only have to complete two semesters of physics and second semester of gen chem.

I was wondering if anyone knows any colleges in NYC or maybe even Long Island that has night or weekend classes. Since I only need to take a few courses, I'm not eligible for most post-bac programs. In addition, I'm working a full time job that I do not want to give up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on where you are in NYC, but I know people who did pre-reqs at Brooklyn College and Hunter College. NYU continuing ed also has evening classes but they are more expensive.

If you're not averse to taking online classes, I would highly recommend MGH Institute of Health Professions. They offer most of the pre-req classes online, Mass General is highly regarded and the classes are not too expensive. They are also geared towards students preparing for the health professions.

Good luck!

Because the classes you need are science pre-reqs with labs, do not do this. Most med schools won't accept them.

I would look at the CUNY schools. I just did a quick class search, and City College has night classes for Physics I and II and Chem II.

SUNY Purchase in westchester has physics classes in the evening as well

Don't count on being able to get into Hunter classes for sure - they fill up really quickly with matriculating students. You can check out CUNY Baruch as well too. I registered at City College but their night and weekend science classes filled up before I was able to sign up for them. If you register at multiple CUNY schools and sign up for classes as soon as it's open to you, you're bound to be able to get a class that fits your schedule somewhere.

When I was working in research, a lot of my colleagues would take classes after work at Hunter College to work towards a masters degree for the PhD route or take post-bacc/ masters classes for med school. It's the most common place I've heard of people taking classes for this purpose while in NYC.

Good luck!

Go CUNY. Cheap and flexible as long as you pay early and get it register on time.
