hello all, I live in Michigan and am debating on applying and going to ferris' pharmacy program or Purdue's. the problem with purdue is it is out of state and a lot of money, but it has great research and is well known. Ferris is cheap, but not too well known. I have rea some previous threads where pharmacists are becoming more like doctors in the sense of where you graduated from being a big deal in what you can do as a pharmacist. I dont want to live in Michigan after college and obviously im not just applying to these two schools alone, but I want to know how difficult it will be to get a job after graduation. I understand theres the large amount of graduates now, and jobs are expecting to get competitive so will that cause the importance of where you graduated from to change? Do most places even look at where you graduated now or are the just like yep hes a pharmacist, wee need one you're hired? Now i am looking into going into clinical pharmacy but i have not ruled out retail. Also im not too concerned over research but it is kind of a fascination and even though i probably wont pursue it i would like the option too, if need be, with a pharmD. Is ferris only restricted to retail?

Searching the forums would have helped you a lot more than posting a new thread amongst the many out there. This question has been brought up before.

In short:

- Retail - doesn't really matter where you get your degree from - you're a warm body with pharmacy education that will withstand the thousand upon thousands of spoiled, whiny patients. Don't worry - there are legit nice patients out there that will validate your reason to make money.

- Clinical - depends on what rotations you do, what you know, and who you know.

By the time you get out of pharmacy school, it will be a bit better, I believe. Stats have only shown up to 2018, and I see you're in HS(?), so give or take, you got 6 to 8+ years of school, which puts you right at that point in time.

thanks and forgive me for being nieve so you think the market will be good when I graduate? How do you feel about the market?

It's "naive". And no, not accosting you, but letting you know about the Search function.

I believe it will be a bit better. There are going to be more graduates than retirees, for sure, in the next couple years, but there will be jobs.

I think you should try to look at a guide on pharmacy careers. There are literally hundreds of job types out there for Pharm.D.'s, not just retail or clinical. I don't need to worry because I'm pretty much open to all job types right now (as in, I could do hospital, clinical, pharmaceutical, management, private managed care, education, or research and be happy.)

I myself will know more about my future when I start and go through pharmacy school this fall. There are others here who could give you better advice. But I advise you to use the Search function first.

Thank you again, and I apologize for not knowing how to spell lol. I actually hhave looked up Pharmacy jobs and i love that you are not limited. Which is what brings me to my question about Ferris. See Ferris basically eliminates research. Also I understand its hard to get jobs out of state if people don't recognize your school when you want to do hospital pharmacy.
