Ever Rethought Life?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
College is and will be just a tiny blip on your radar. I love when people fail a test and think their life is over and they won't get into the professional school they want. It's funny looking back at it because those little exams are so meaningless, but they help build up your work ethic and help you grow as a person. It would be alarming if you didn't care that you failed a test. You'll be fine.

Have any of you guys ever felt like you bombed a test and then felt like you had to rethink life and the meaning of it?

Because I think I just bombed my Ochem test...
There are more important things in life than that. You don't even know your grade yet. Many times, I feel the same way walking out of an exam and end up doing better than expected. All you can do is hope for the best, but if you do end up failing a test, just remember that there are other opportunities to make it up.

I bombed my entire 5 years in undergrad.. but here I am about to enter school in the fall. Don't give up. However, it's great to rethink life and what it means to you.
That's what makes you grow up and mature. Some people are stuck being kids forever because they won't take up the responsibilities of being an adult.

A part of it involves learning to pick yourself up after you fall. In fact, many great people I respect have gone through lots of struggles and failures that they endured and overcame.

I really agree with the saying that if you really want to become a dentist, you'll get there. Someway, somehow.

This. So much this.

Practically every day of Fall D1.

Yikes. Does everyone in your class feel this way about Fall D1?

Yep- one of the moments I chuckle at is when I woke up 15 mins after an exam started (had been studying until 4am, exam was at 9-10am), and I thought I was done for. The exam was 40% of the final course grade! But it's amazing- Adrenaline kicked in, I was in the exam room within 10 mins (it was on the other side of campus) and still had about 35 mins to finish it.

I actually ended up finishing it right as the period ended. Earned a B+ on it. My point is- don't worry about these things until you have to, and then, put it in perspective.

Was just a big change, being on my own for the first time, the huge load of gross anatomy. We only had like one bad two week period in D1 Sprin. Everything else has been a cruising for the most part

How did you adjust?

How did you adjust?

Just like going to the gym for the first time. You can barely move for the first few weeks. Body and mind gets adjusted to the stress. Exact same thing with dental school. The good grades start coming in, you build up your stamina and your studying habits. Just need time.

Multiple times in multiple subjects has this happened to me. Happened in my Calc 1 class. Definitely worked my butt off and got an A-. You can recover, just work for it.

Re-read this thread when you fail another test later in college. You'll find comfort knowing you overcame it once and can do it again.

Lmfao, I bombed all of my Ochem tests... and then ended up withdrawing from the class the day before the final exam. It really got me down, but I retook it over the summer and got an A. Ochem ended up being my best TS score on the DAT (24), and I was never asked about it during any of my interviews. Just remember -- "If it feels like hell, keep going."

How are you studying for ochem at the moment? You have to think of it as another language and an art form, and also do as many practice problems as you can get your hands on. My basic philosophy in organic chem is to follow the direction of charge. What would you do if you were an electron and wanted to gain more stability?
