Ever voided an MCAT? How early afterwards can you register for next attempt?

Hi there

So I am registered to take the MCAT tomorrow, and I'm feeling pretty confident.

I am, however, the type of person who likes to have contingency plan just in case, and I don't want to screw this up. If I were to prefer to void my exam at the end, what happens next? Can you immediately go home and register for a future exam date? Or is there a waiting period?

I couldn't find any directions in the AAMC MCAT guide, so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hope everyone is coming along great in their preparations!

If they don't specify a waiting period, I'd assume you can register immediately after voiding. Is there a specified time period for waiting after canceling an exam?

Also, don't void the exam unless it goes so poorly you accidentally void your bowels half way through the test and don't finish.

Edit: Last sentence was a little unclear. "and don't finish the exam." That should cover it 🙂

there's a waiting period. i think it was only a couple days.

I want to second this - if it's your first test, I really don't think you should void unless your are physically unable to complete the test. (Or, I suppose if you give up in the middle. Try not to do that.)

Just see how you do.

I voided my first time and I'm 100% that it was the right decision. I saw the first couple of physics passages and was like "I know how to do this, but my brain is not working." For whatever reason, maybe stress, I just wasn't myself. One month later I did great!

Thanks for your advice everyone. Very helpful.

I totally understand why everyone says not to void the test just because you are unsure of how you did... I feel like no matter how well you can predict your practice test scores, the real thing would be impossible to gauge.

I think two legitimate reasons to void the test would be:
1. you have computer related issues/fall ill
2. decide beforehand you aren't quite ready but have just a month to study... and can take it before the first test scores are released.

Sounds like you're right. Wikipedia cites a two-day wait after taking a test, before you can register again.
