Every applicants get accepted to 4 schools at best no matter how many they apply

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I saw this in another thread and am a bit puzzled by that person at the very bottom who applied to 45 schools and it shows they didn't get accepted to a single one of them. 😕 It does appear from looking at that chart that applying to more than 2 or 3 schools does not really raise your odds much. 🙁

As somebody else said in that other thread, people may very well stop interviewing after a certain number of acceptances. If you applied to ten schools and your top choice picked you early on, would you bother with the other nine?

Do you need acceptances from all 10 schools anyway?

Applying to so many schools is simply a safety net.

I posted this thread to warn other people that applying to more schools just waste more of your time and money and I am a victim of that. But I think it is too late since all the application deadline has already passed for this year😱

from the pdf file, there were winners who applied 40+ schools and didn't get in any?😕

just because they applied to 40 schools doesn't mean they completed all the secondaries/requirements for all of them. they probably gave up after realizing they won't complete a prereq by matriculation time. I withdrew my application to some schools last year after realizing they wanted calculus based physics.

c'mon, how do those schools know that the physics you took is calculus based.

anyway, if those winners know they can't finish, why apply 40 schools? for fun?
i am guessing their Stats are too low so they applied 40 schools, and didn't fill out supplemental applications?

for someone with such a nasty attitude towards others u have some nice stats damn, haha i guess the purdue interview is no surprise. u shouldnt call ppl losers who u never met in real life. get a grip bc ur looking like the loser here regardless if u have a 99 Pcat and 4.0 GPA.

Common, don't be sooo harsh on people. Yeah, I know applying to 40 + schools is certainly out of the ordinary but don't be so judgemental. I remeber seeing that person respond to one of the threads on this forum. There is a good chance he/she may be reading what you said right now and feeling like complete crap. There is no need to further put someone down when they were in a situation like this - I imagine they already had a lot on their plate w/out you calling them a loser.

I am not picking on you - I just think we should all be nicer to each other. 😍Someone on this forum one time completely devastated me with what they said - and it may not have mattered much to them but I've cried for an entire day afterwards. I don't think you should throw a word loser aorund so easily.

Fiorio, what changed between this year and last year that helped you get those acceptances? Were your PCAT and GPA lower? No experience? Bad letters of recommendation? Worse interviews?

ok i was being mean, i should call those who applied 40+ schools and didn't get any offers WINNERS! yes, they are the winners!

answering knickerbocker's quesition
my GPA was all time high, PCAT was all time high, always had experience, I didn't get any interview first time apply.
plus: getting a degree, undergraduate research about drug, pre-pharm club leader.

last cycle I was too naive and didn't know how to apply at all. I trusted the writing center ppl at my campus to revise my personal statement=deadly mistake 1. apply too late=deadly mistake 2. no variety in volunteer work=deadly mistake 3 (they don't care how long you volunteer at one place, they want variety). anyway, i could write a really long thread about how unprepared i was.

hope it wasnt me who made u cry for an entire day?

as for florio i cant possibly see why u would not get into any schools with those stats the first time unless u missed deadlines and was drinking beer when u wrote ur personal statement. a few errors in personal statement can no way kill all ur hard work unless again u were drunk when u wrote the personal statement. if i had a gpa like that high i would be sitting on freaking easy street right now.

I actually don't drink~
I even used writing center at my campus for help, the lady who helped me was useless apprently. my mom sent my PS to a english teacher and she found out so many mistakes.
I re-write a new one this year.
I did apply too late.

this is typical my life, i never achieve anything smoothly, there is always something happen in the middle of the way. God like to make my life more interesting I guess, but what else I can do besides suck it up. 🙂

I think once people start getting acceptances, they do not bother to go to any other interviews, because most likely they got into the schools of their interest by that time. I know I wouldn't go to 10 interview all over the states and waste money on that!!! That's why the the "4 school acceptance" is skewed.

45 applications at a cost of approximately $100 each = $4500.:scared:

I was so desperate this year that I was planning to apply to at least 20! I ran out of money and applied to 15 instead

Yeah, that's what I am doing next year - applying to 15-20. I think it's smart not to waste money on other schools if you were already accepted to one of th schools you wanna go to. You are cute by the way, nice picture.🙂

Hey Cheb-

That's my plan for next year too! This year, I didn't apply to many schools b/c I was overwhelmed with my classes since I'm trying to graduate this June. And of course, I'm going to try to apply EARLY this time! 🙂

i planned to apply 30+ schools, but eventually end up applying 16.
still waste a lot of money
tip:
since you can add school destination on pharmcas anytime, apply rolling admission school and schools with deadline at Nov,Dem first.
then u will get some interviews, if you got offer, then you don't have to apply for schools with deadline at Feb, March, save some money.

I waste a lot of money.

Wow, thanks Fiorio for a totally awesome tip !🙂

Cool, we are in the same boat ! 🙂Let's support each other through application process, maybe we'll even apply to the same schools. What state are you from ?

I'd type something here, but I remember beating this topic to death in another thread.

Apply to more than 10 schools is downright ******ed, IMHO. Pick a few that are within your stats range, a few that you are above, and a few that are a reach.

Had I applied to more schools, I'd still be sitting on two acceptances. Money saved.

I'm from SoCal. I actually live in Orange County, but go to school in San Diego. My #1 choice is still UCSF. 🙂

Mine too = although I am getting some mixed feelings. Last week I went to an outreach event hosted by UCSF pharmacy because they needed a Russian translator - it was soooo much fun and the entire time I was there - I was thinking to myself - I would do anything to attend this school. On a different note - today I met a few students and a faculty member that completely turned me off with their arrogance.

You are probably right, however I sampled "different" regions and florida alone had 4 schools that I was going to apply, that's why I got around 15. I think it all comes to what are you looking for and how desperate you are.

Ушастик, поздравляю! Хотя могу тебя предупредить, работать с русской публикой - дело не легкое!😀 Надо нам свой отдельный thread для русскоязычных открывать пока нас обоих отсюда не вытурнули!!!

Yeah that's different...I know a lot of people who limited themselves geographically (specifically: California/West Coast). I'm talking about those that are applying just to "increase their chances of getting in" while not making the effort at targeting their schools.

Oh that sucks...I guess it depends on the time, day, and person we bump into. For some reason, I thought everybody was nice to me when I attended the Supplemental Workshop back in Sept. At the end of the day when I had to find the Muni to head back to the airport, I bumped into some med students who were extremely nice and helped me find my way back. Haha, I actually find that certain staff at UCSD hospital pharmacy where I volunteer aren't too friendly, but the pharm students are really nice when I swung by at their open house. 🙂

i know, i was totally in panic, if i don't get in somewhere, i don't know what to do. i don't want to waste another year. so i applied 16, which was quite irrational. but anyway, i got in somewhere, so i'm happy.

guess that's all that matters in the end, congrats!

I guess just spend the next few weekends at home vs. going out and you'll recoup that money.

Were your acceptances in the "middle range" of schools you applied to? Or were they the reach/backup schools?

I just looked this up on the other thread, but it seems like the number of schools you are applying has no correlation on how many schools you apply to. See: http://www.aacp.org/Docs/MainNavigation/ForDeans/7735_Offers0506.pdf on the 2006 data. I applied to 10 schools, what a bummer😡

Applied to 13 schools. I've been on 6 interviews and I have been accepted to 5 thus far...Still waiting on a response from the 6th. I got a flurry of interview offers around the same time, so I accepted them all. I wish I would have found this site sooner than I did. I probably wouldn't have applied to so many schools. But better safe than sorry I guess...

geez how much money have you spent on interviews/applications? i'm too lazy to check the budget thread.

I would guess somewhere around 5-7K...I really don't want to add it all up, the total would make me very depressed.

A pretty humble opinion if you ask me.

I got in OSU(top choice), UK(totally unexpected), Midwestern CCP, NOVA, and I didn't go to a bunch interviews.
