This past week, I've been in a big dilemna trying to choose between BU, RFUMS, and EVMS for my SMP. I have some questions I'm confused about from reading sooo many different posts with different answers and just want to clarify some things. 😕

So I understand that RFUMS and EVMS have the best linkage into their own schools, but apparently I heard that them getting you into other med schools (having good scores) isn't that great, lets say comparing to BU (with the same scores).
I heard BU has horrible linkage to its own program but is great for getting you into a number of other medical schools?

(don't say this post has already been posted cause its really not clear in other posts and most of the other threads are pretty old; 3-5 years old)
I have a long list of pros and cons for both schools and was wondering if anyone can give me an opinion on which would be the wisest choice out of the 3 to attend?

Thank you for your time

This all depends on what YOUR goal is. If you have a specific medical school that you want to attend, then obviously BU would be the better choice out of the three. If you don't care and are looking to attend any MD school with the highest linkage possibility, then EVMS or RFUMS will be better. At that point, look at residency match rates, cost, area, etc. to help you decide between those schools.

You didn't mention if you have been accepted or not yet, which would also be a factor.

I've been accepted to all 3. So when you say
"If you don't care and are looking to attend any MD school with the highest linkage possibility"
are you implying that RFUMS and EVMS have very low acceptance into other medical schools in US ? and only have good linkage to their own?

This is just my opinion based on my own research on here on SDN but if I were in your shoes I would go for either evms or rfu. I would have to consider the cost of attendance of either.

BU turns me off because of their low rate of acceptance into BU med. I recall reading some posts on sdn that even though people did really well in the program 3.7+ they still didn't get in because of low ugpa. I also read similar reports regarding georgetown. bu's tuition for med is also really expensive.

I also read in another post by drmidlife that evms oos coa is like 80/year or something like that but you could jump through some hoops to get instate tuition.

I would really have to decide based on cost but both rfu and evms are both some of the most desirable smps.

As far being accepted into the HOST school I would rank temple and tulane as being tier 1. evms, cinc, rfu and toledo as tier 2. GT, tufts and BU as tier 3.

I'm not sure about their capabilities of getting students accepted into other medical schools since most students jump on the chance to enter the host school in EVMS and RFUMS. It is most likely on par with most other SMPs.

Most students want a guarantee that they will enter a medical school (MD) the following year, regardless of location.

BU has historically gotten students into a wide range of medical schools, so it's a better option if you're looking to get into your state school. It's also a 2 year program so you'll be waiting to get in longer. EVMS and RFU aren't reputable for its students entering other medical schools, primarily because of the higher linkage to their own schools the year following the SMP
