Hey guys,
Recently, I got accepted to both EVMS and Cincinatti SMP and was having trouble deciding between the two. I like EVMS because the program goes straight from SMP to Med school without having to waste another year in between, but I know Cincinatti has a better overall reputation. Any suggestions on what you guys would choose and why?

Thanks a lot

What are your stats?

With cincinatti SMP you would be able to achieve IS tuition (I believe) after completing the program which could save you some money

Cincinnati vs Norfolk as cities can also help you decide. Which would you rather live in?

Also, I believe UC may have a smaller class size which is usually a positive thing.

Cincinnati SMP has the most transparency in terms of reporting graduate outcomes compared to any other program out there.
You can actually see the medical school that each graduate attends, rather than a statement like "85% of our graduates are accepted to a medical/dental school." Who knows if they are DO/Caribbean/Ireland etc.

I see. Do you guys think I can get into a top 50 MD with my stats? I have an upward trend after basically getting a 0.0 GPA my first semester of college. Can my decent MCAT make up for this? Also, I attend a top 15 Undergrad.

yes it's possible. would i put money it? no. i think a better goal is just USMD for your stats.

I'd argue that U of Cinci is a top 50 MD school so doing that SMP would be a step in the right direction.

If I go to Cincinnati smp this fall and apply to medical school this summer, will the smp have any benefit on my chances this cycle for med school? Will schools look more favorably if I tell them I'm going to Cincinnati rather than EVMS smp?

Cinci and EVMS may allow you to apply during the SMP giving priority to the SMP students depending on your performance in the program, but you'd have to check on that. Other schools would probably want to see how you do and wait for at least the first semester grades. Check past threads from both programs and see what the former students say about applying during SMP. It will probably only hurt you if you do poorly in the program.

Ultimately both programs are reputable and rigorous and (assuming you do well) will help you get into medical school. Check the past threads to get a better idea of what the programs are like, but take what everyone says with a grain of salt. I would choose cinci, but choose whichever YOU think is best. Good luck.
