I was accepted to both and have done a lot of research, but couldn't find answers specific to my needs,

My understanding is that they both have very supportive staff and take in a small class (which is why I prefer them over Georgetown/Tufts):

EVMS

pros:
-one of the highest linkage into its own school (~75%)
-small chance of taking a lag year btwn SMP and med school

cons:
-inability to attain VA residency

UC (Cincinnati)

pros:
-OH residency after 1 year
-lots of opportunity to shadow/ volunteer/ research within program
-~50% get into med school right out of the program

cons:
-may have to take a lag year btwn SMP and med school

I am currently leaning towards EVMS.

Could anyone comment on any other differences? Thanks.

You can add "lots of opportunity to shadow/ volunteer/ research within program" to the EVMS column as well. You can shadow any specialty you want, and EVMS has an insane number of student groups that have constant opportunities to volunteer at all sorts of things, from free clinics to the childrens hospital to working with underprivileged school kids, etc etc etc. We also have some very big research projects going on in the fields of diabetes, female reproductive health, and contraception (the CONRAD project).

Good luck with your decision.

Hi, I havent begun my SMP yet but I had these as my two top-ranked programs and I agree they are pretty tough to pick between.

One thing I notice is not on your list is that EVMS is, I believe, one of those programs where if you honor a course during the SMP you don't have to take it the next year. Cincy is not. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong.

I ended up picking Cincy, mostly because of glowing testimonials I found that said they are great at supporting same-year med school apps and had a good student environment (not the most scientific means of deciding, I know) but either one sounds great, good luck.

Bump. I'm in the same situation right now. So far, I decided to turn down RFU and Toledo, but can't decide whether to commit to EVMS or Cincinnati (which I recently got into).

EVMS = Awesome SMP linkage (80-90%), Unranked Med school
Cincy = Great SMP linkage (50-90%), Ranked Med school

Decisions, Decisions...
