I was surprised to not find any recent threads between these so thought I’d make one

EVMS
Pros:
  • good vibe the day of the interview with very friendly students
  • Higher step 1 average
  • Match list seemed to be good this year
  • Really close to where I am from so I know Norfolk really well
  • The students I talked to really loved EVMS
Cons:
  • I originally thought it would be more challenging to match into competitive specialties but they seem to consistently match well
  • Not affiliated with a university- less resources and opportunities
VCU

Pros:
  • Also a very good vibe on interview day
  • Originally where I was hoping to go
  • Richmond seems pretty nice but I haven’t spent very much time there
  • Affiliated with a university so maybe more opportunities and research
Cons:
  • Lower step 1 scores
  • Richmond seems to be more expensive
  • None of the students I talked to really loved VCU.. just said it was getting them to where they want to be

Im a Virginian resident and I was very excited to be accepted to both. So far no scholarships etc. but I think that it’s still possible. I really think either one would be a good option for me but I’m interested to hear what others think.

COA what is the difference? I don't think your opportunities at EVMS vs VCU will be very different. If Norfolk is where you have a support system and you like it there then I would stay there. Personally I like Richmond better so I would pick VCU - but I'm not you

COA for evms is a couple thousand less. I was told by VCU that I will likely get a partial scholarship but there’s no guarantee and I am not sure if I will get anything from evms.

I'd say one of the bigger potential downsides to EVMS is how they put so much focus on good Step 1 performance, teaching to the test. But since you're interested in competitive specialties then that is a bonus for you. Overall sounds like you prefer EVMS.
