Someone please tell me why does cost something like $700 to take the step 1 exam even though the student loans are soaring through the roof AND payments to doctors will be cut soon??? (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/27/health/policy/27care.html) Are they trying to reduce the numbers of doctors?

the fine people at the NBME know how to make money. they are a business not a service organization though they should be. Maybe we should get Unicef to make a board exam. I am joking with you, it is funny, do not take it personal. I do have the same frustrations with the NBME that you have, look at the cost of Step 2CS.

if they charged $7000 it wouldn't reduce the number of doctors. If you don't believe that call up someone who didn't get in and ask if they would go to medical school but they have to pay an extra $6300, most would.
