Was wondering what people thought of this book. I've seen it ranked as

Organic Chemistry: 1. BR, by far 2. TPR Hyperlearning 3. EK/Kaplan

and was wondering why EK is ranked 3rd. I bought this book, and it was $26 shipped vs. TBR's $65 shipped. I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake by getting this instead of BR's ochem.

I LOVED EK's OChem book. It was self-explanatory and short enough that you could actually get through all the material.

I had the BR, PR, and EK books available to me, and I agree with that ranking completely. The biggest thing to me is the quality (and quantity) of the practice questions and passages. It comes down to practice and answer explanations, and that's where BR beats PR and EK.

BR comes with tons of questions and passages. You need to compare the price of both EK OChem and 1001 Questions combined to the BR books.

I had the opposite experience. I HATED EK's OChem book. I thought it was poorly written, like a scaled down textbook. I also didn't like that it had practically no questions and passages.

What I liked about the BR OChem books is that they explained things simply, had tons and tons of practice questions, and incorporated biology and general chemistry. The lab techniques chapter, carbonyl chapter, and sugars chapter were especially good.

Interesting responses. I actually decided to just get the BR ochem books too. I got one shot at this test, better put everything I can into it. BR passages seem to be really helpful in the gchem/physics book so I'm guessing they will be just as helpful for ochem. Thanks guys

BR's O-chem has great passages, and they're worth buying for those alone. The actual content sucks in my opinion...just use EK as a quick refresher. There's no hard Ochem on the MCAT anyways...you could likely learn it all in 1 day of review assuming you did well in organic.

Good stuff 👍

I think I'll take your advice and use EK for refreshing and BR for the passages for now (whenever the books come in, that is).. thanks
