Examkrackers thread

I am using the Gchem examkrackers book. I felt it was my weakest subject so I bought a few extra books.

i actually just finished throwin some examkrackers bio. audio lectures on my ipod so i can listen to'em while i walk to class. anybody do anything similar to this?

i think examkrackers bio (esp) will help since i've been hearing that the dat bio section has become harder. examkrackers is way more in-depth than the blue kaplan dat bio section (as far as the human phys portion goes esp) and i think it explains the concepts better too.

Yea I am using it, and its pretty good! but just not enough info (only 200 pgs)! but good book!

Man, you guys are making me feel I underprepared for my DAT two weeks ago. Studied intensely for a week of spring break using topscore and achiever only. I am going full throttle this summer just to catch up with you guys with new resources. 😉

I took orgo in sophomore year, did respectably (B+/B). But had NO recollection of 90% of the stuff I did back then. I Took Kaplan prep the summer after my graduation. Then did the exam krackers orgo and gen chem books front to back about 3 times each, along with the kaplan cards and my own personal notes from my old textbooks. I took the test ~August, like 3.5 years after I took the stuff and got a 29 in orgo and 23 in gen chem... I literally studied for about 5 months straight and lost a summer... But whatever the materials and methods were, seems like they worked...
Good luck to ya

2 Qs,

1) How many hrs did you study per day in avg.?
2) What about Bio, did you use it along with you GC & OC?

Thx!

I used the g. chem and O. chem examcracker great practice and explanations. As for biology the questions were way different then on the DAT.

did any of you really see results with the verbal EK cuz the DAT RC is so different from the verbal mcat isn't it?

i can see why the ochem and chem and even bio EK books would be helpful though. Sounds like chem and ochem are the most relevant but with all the hype about bio being harder and what not I feel like EK bio would indeed be good practice too. I have all the EK books and am taking my DAT in less than a month so I'm just trying to get a feel for if EK is good prep for DAT and which ones specifically cuz I still can't see why EK verbal would be good-the timings are so different?

do you really think EK helped boost your science or RC scores and if it did how much did you end up with if you don't mind me asking please?

I really thought that Examkrackers Gchem was a waste of time. It went way more in depth than the actual dat. I wished I hadn't used it but YMMV...

did you use EK bio? that one I think I will def try to get through cuz it seems like i need to do all the bio I can.

What about EK for ochem, any thought son that?

thanks for sharing the ek chem advise though 🙂

I used EK bio (and 1001 questions, but that one is less useful because of the passages). I used EK ochem and 1001 ochem, they're both very helpful IMO. Audio Osmosis was great for dog walks...esp. the bio part.

I personaly agree with you on using exam crackers bio, chem and orgo books, because these books provide you with more indepth concepts and they are much easier to visualise and understand than kaplan study book

ah man i just realized I have the EK 1001 books not the other EK books, I forgot there were 2 types so I was referring to the 1001 books.

The bio ones are in passage form but even though you said it's not as helpful as the regular EK should I still go through it? I know the test format is different but I figured it's just more in depth bio practice so it can't hurt. I guess I should just do it early enough so I don't confuse myself with the different formats?

Grrr I wish I had more time to go through all of this stuff. I think the chem would be helpful too but the ochem seems too in depth! Maybe because it's my weakest so I'm most weary of that section anyways?

You will learn a lot from the bio 1001 but it's just not very efficient. It depends on how much time you have to spare for that section. The normal EK bio is much more useful.

If gchem is your weak area I'd just go through your college textbook and learn the concepts your missing there. I'm a chemical engineer and the EK book went into a level of detail that I hadn't seen since my undergrad. It's far too much detail for the dat. The dat doesn't try to trick you like the mcat. You don't need to know the little subtleties...just understand the main concept and be able to apply it. I wish I had spent more time with QR/verbal/PAT instead of the time I feel I wasted with the EK gchem book. Once again YMMV. 😉

awesome thanks for the advice! i will put those at the end of my "books to study" list then. I guess I feel like it's easier for me to do better on the sciences if I put in enough time so I think I will end up going through EK bio1001 and MAYBE EK chem 1001 if i get the time a little to make sure i'm great at these even if I can't be as good in the other sections...let's see how it goes 🙂

If you don't get EK bio or audio osmosis for the bio, then you should go through 1001 (if you want to really kick @ss on bio you should get one of those though...).

hi again 🙂
I actually have audio osmosis too. I can't seem to get into it though. I feel like I have to be so wide awake and actively learning to follow and retain it best- it just stresses me out. I'd rather be in that mode when going over tests or studying notes. I can't figure out a way to be that on edge and actively studying for the half the day yet so I feel like i want to use that energy for other things like blue book or taking tests.

How would you say the audio osmosis contributed though? Was it really better and more useful than doing problems?

thanks again this is so helpful 🙂

I went through the EK bio book and the kaplan white book and flash cards really well before I started using Audio Osmosis. Then, I used osmosis as a refresher (for both bio and ochem, and a few of the chem sections). I was studying 12-14 hrs/day towards the end and it was nice to be able to walk my dogs or jog and listen to it. I thought that it helped transfer a lot of the details I had crammed in my head into my long term memory. Of course, I can study and listen to Guns n Roses at the same time too. It sounds like you need to use the books some more first...

Osmosis is just a highlight of their Ecrack books. I really don't think it's worth anything >$20.

i think you're right i need to get a hold of my basics more first. That's awesome that you can study while listening to such much...i prefer pin drop silence -helps me focus? 😳

How did you study for 12-14 hrs/day though! that's awesome! i'm trying to build up to that level still 😱
