I've heard of some people getting interviews at schools that require 5-6 quarter units (or even 2 full quarters!!!) of biochem when they only had 4 quarter units.

Do you think that they were an exception or the school just offered an interview and would have made them take it later?

I'm selecting schools now and I don't know if I should risk applying to schools where I don't totally fulfill the biochem requirement.

I think it would be more advantageous to call the specific schools and inquire about that, rather than asking about what pre-dents think about the issue. It wont take time to call up and it will easily let you know whether you qualify to apply to said schools or not.

Many schools will interview you even if you haven't completed all pre-reqs at the time of application, they'll just expect you to complete those courses prior to matriculation. There's no harm in applying.
