Med3 here wanting to do a presentation for my Ob/Gyn rotation. The topic i'm thinking about is still vague but I'm considering researching any new technologies or future markers for prenatal testing. Maybe breakthroughs in fetal echocardiography or Ultra sound.. not sure yet.

Any recommendations? any particularly interesting topics come to mind? best journals/authors?

thanks!

There's been buzz about a pretty new method of prenatal DNA testing involving maternal blood and the father's saliva sample. There is apparently enough fetal DNA n the mother's blood that between it and the fathe's saliva they can map out the fetus' genome. Much less invasive (and without the risk of preterm labor or miscarriage) than an amnio or CVS. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/06/120606142814.htm

And here's the abstract for the study the article cites: http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/4/137/137ra76
