Hello everyone!

I had a question regarding what happens to O2 transfer during exercise.

According to FA and costanzo, O2 transfer becomes diffusion limited during exercise.

Does O2 equilibration still occur by the end of the capillary? ( FA 2018 and costanzo seem to say it doesn't)

If equilbration does not occur, paO2 would be lower correct? In response to this, would hyperventilation offset the decreased paO2 leading to a normal paO2 ( as seen in exercise)?

Thank you all and have a great day!

From my understanding, diffusion limitation by definition means that it has not equilibrated by the end of the capillary.

PaO2 does decrease, I believe, though not significantly - there are other factors that will stop you from exercising at maximum effort before oxygen limitation.
