The literature already basically says Exparel offers no benefits over plain bupivacaine for peripheral nerve blocks. This new drug seems interesting in that they've at least compared it to plain bupivacaine in the trials, vs. Exparel which was compared against placebo (saline) once they realized there was no difference vs. plain bupi.

Edit: just realized that article you posted is 2 years old. A quick literature doesn't come up with much in the last 2 years.
