I must say that I looking through this forum, it amazes me to see so many people who have to travel so far for each interview. I am sure that is EXPENSIVE. Not to mention people who come from countries practically half way around the world.

How do you guys manage this? It seems to me like you would need to take out a loan just to be able to pay for all the accomodations for the various schools.

I think it's a great idea that some people try and find roommates for sharing their expenses.

I was thinking of applying to schools that are close to where I live. I guess that would decrease my chances of getting into schools. But I cannot afford to be flying out every month for an interview.

Please share some of your insights into how one can manage this wisely.

Thanks

I have the same situation.I live in Montreal _CANADA,So I did not apply to any university in US west coast cause any interview will cast me between 800-1000$.

I sure did, actually my family did. 😉

Well, being sarastic: the good thing is not all schools will offer you interview invites. And maybe if you apply early to schools closer to you, and late to the ones further way, you'll have time to interview close to home and get an answer from the schools, before you spend your $$ in schools far away.

Just a thought...

i have nothing more to say i agree ....i got an interview call from uop but i calculated the xepenses and decided not to go...i have been to 3 interviews so far the flight, hotel, taxi, food phew so much$$$$

maybe u could check out the college websites or try to find out from other people u know, and try to find someone who lives in that city who could afford to let u stay with them for a day or two.... or try the Ys or YMCAs....or try to coordinate with someone else going to the same place and divide costs. if u have put in this much effort, its well worth going for all the interviews u can!
