Forgive me if this has already been asked, but how would volunteering at a zoo count as experience?

I've been volunteering Sunday mornings at the zoo in the farmyard for about six months now, and I'm curious if this experience counts as large animal experience. It's not following a vet around, it's mainly feeding the animals, grooming them and cleaning their stalls.

I have years to go before I apply to school, but what's your recommendation on large animal experience? I'm guessing my experience won't be sufficient enough for an admissions committee, but maybe I'm wrong. I still intend to find a LA vet someday to follow, but I'm just curious about the opinion out there.

Thank you!!!

It counts as large animal experience. Just not as vet experience. since your already at the zoo you might want to also try to work with some of the exotics as well. Again it would count as animal experience.

Enjoy!

your experience is very relevant for potentially two reasons; first you know you like being around animals and providing care even in a very unglamorous, non cuddly situation (assuming you like the volunteering of course!) and second, at least in my situation as I had some similar positions, it may help you realize that though you enjoy caring for animals, there is something more you want ie. the scientific side of caring for them and learning about them... either way don't forget that all animal experience is relevant- not only to help you know what you like, but to help you know what you don't like too!!
