How many of you guys had experience as a dental assistant?

do you mean like doing basic chairside assistin, or being an actual Certified Dental Assistant that can do fisher sealants and recalls and stuff..

I don't think you'll find too many dentists that have a CDA diploma as well

I've done it for 2 summers, definitely lets you know if this is really what you want to do or not.

I worked full time for 6 months as a dental assistant. Really good expereince, much different than shadowing or helping out for a few weeks. I think you should do it if you havn't been in and around the office much.

I was a registered dental assistant for two years before being accepted into dental school. I was able to do pretty much everything in the office including Child Prophys, Sealants, and most lab working from making retainers to custom trays for dentures. It was a great experience that I know will be very preparatory for dental school.

Yeah, I got certified this past month, but its man its SO tough to find a job as one when you have no experience. I currently shadow a dentist, but he doesn't need anyone right now, and hes actually looking for a experienced one. I actually work at CVS as a summer time job, about to be done soon, but I've gotten an offer from the pharmacist to work as like a assistant to him, wondering if that would look good since it has something to do with medicine? obviously I'd look to get a job as a DA, but what do you guys think about that?

I don't think it's necessary to find a job as a DA although it can only help you. I find that a majority of applicants only shadow/volunteer in a dental setting and that'll suffice for adcoms as long as you have competitive GPA and DAT.
