When should you use this?

"Examples of pertinent information might include explanations about interruptions in your studies or experiences, unique circumstances you have faced, or reasons for decisions you have made."

My only reason for poor performance for the first 3 semesters was I decided prematurely I couldn't do vet school and wasn't going to do it.

Should I bother writing this or just leave the negative out?

What would include the decisions I made that should be explained? I am a little confused here?

What did everyone else put?

Personal Statement

Similarly should I maintain an upbeat attitude or admit that my first year as a freshman, I was intimidated by the prospect of vet school and wasn't going to do it anymore but after more experience in a clinic (sophomore / junior / senior) I decided I did really want to do vet school.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Don't mention your crappy grades your first 3 semesters, they'll see that on your transcript, why bring it up for them a second time, instead focus on how your experiences in the clinic motivated you to push forward and get those grades up. Just how your always trying to strive for better in general. I know bad grades look bad, but maybe you can say veterinary studies is what gave you the motivation and how all your upward grades is tied to your desire to be a vet. That shows passion for it. I hope you know what Im trying to say, it's just you have to put a spin on it in your personal statement because on your transcript all it says is your not as academically qualified for a seat period. but lucking it's more than grades so good luck ! ! ! ! ! !

You can also tie it in to how you've matured and because of that experience you are a stronger applicant. Use better wording, of course. 🙂

I'm a non trad that was out of school for awhile and was fairly blunt about my first semester back taking upper level science (I failed one class). But I also tried to show how differently I handled the situation from when I was younger. Basically, used it as an example of how I can take a hard knock and keep going while being upfront with my struggles.
