so one of my friends is getting extended time on the DAT and I am kind of jealous. i feel like im alright on time for the sciences, but if i had extra time on reading and math it would be so much easier...what have you guys that have taken the real thing experienced with the time aspect??

no i believe him..i mean he was tested and i imagine to get approved for extra time you probably have to have a legit problem.
do you think you would do much better though with the extra time?

I think I could have had a 30 on QR if I had more time..and maybe a calculator

If you are good at math then with extra time you could probably get a 25+
Also for RC, it is all about searching...the more time, the better you would do.
it seems you have never taken a practice test OP.

nope havent taken a practice test yet, my dat is on sept 30th, and i hope to take my 1st topscore test maybe sunday or monday..
i guess im gonna need to be really fast on math and rc

Wow...only reason a person with ADD should get extra time is if they can't get medication (maybe allergic to it or something)...otherwise it is BS...

i heard about this. however, i was told that it would be noted that the test taker got extended time on the score report sheet. so it is a double edged sword.

I say the opposite! ADD should have less time because they will jump from question to question faster. They should finish the test faster!!

ha

i asked him about that and apparently thats not true. he said that some law says it is totally anonymous and no one knows about it..

Ya, I would imagine its against the law to make note of this in the score report. It would allow for discrimination of some sort. Trust me though, I dont even think ADD is a legit disease. It bothers me when "ADD" people get extra time. Of course there are some extreme cases, but ADD is one of the more over-diagnosed diseases out there. Its wack.

Completely agree. 👍

Well then what will this person do in dental school?

Getting an extension on a test might allow for better performance, but won't this person still have to work at regular pace with everyone else in dental school?

haha well I hope his disability is recognized through the interview. This autistic kid at my school has a 3.98 GPA, gets that "extra time" on all his exams and tests, ACED the MCAT but didn't get accepted to one school. Reason is the interview owned him. Talk to him for about 2 minutes you can already tell he is socially inept.

btw, I have ADD and it does nothing positive for me whenver I take ritalin . I haven't taken it since first year but I can say it is not a performance enhancer. It does however make you FOCUS, but that is not necessarily a good thing. You won't focus on your DAT, you will focus on everything around you, the clicking of the girl next to you, the sound of the fan, ALL that stuff gets enhanced when your on ritalin. This is no learning disability tho so I wouldn't ask for more time even if I had the option to. Maybe your friend will get more time for the DAT, but later in life he won't get that luxury and thats when he can say GG no re to himself.

wait I have ADD and I didn't get extra time...

BLAST I could have killed the quant section with more time!!!!

oh well, heres one thing for sure your friend was smart enough to find out he could do that because I wish I had known =/

man......dude, when I took my DAT yesterday. I was having mechincal error with the computer I was on. Wasted almost 5 mins off my QR time, which didn't let me get to 5 VERY EASY questions at the end. Prometric center wouldn't let me have extension time even though it was their computer's fault. It froze on me multiple times. By froze I mean I couldn't move onto the next nor previous question while the clock was still ticking. 5 mins is ALOT in QR. Not making any excuses but that could have put me from a 16 to a 19.!!! such BS
