So I did not match for externship this first round and am working to keep applying to new sites. Wondering if anyone has had or knows about someone who did their externship at the White Institute. My DFT keeps saying it would not make me competitive for APICC ... but all these left over are filling up fast or are neuropsych spots...
Any thoughts = super helpful

I am not familiar with that site in particular, but I would say it depends on what type of hours you need the most. I completed a neuropsych heavy externship and it allowed me to get a lot of assessment hours and experience. I am not a neuropsychologist but what I learned was invaluable and helped me progress in both writing and fully understanding assessment.

Thanks! In my program we do 2 school externships and one clinical externship before heading out to internship. I guess as long as I am gaining assessment hours and therapy hours I should be alright?
I heard that even though the training at the externship level is great, there is a lot of bias against analytic training institutes outside of New York and maybe that’s why the White Institute is not a favorable place to extern at if it’s the only clinical internship we do...

I completed this externship a few years back and personally cannot say enough good things, particularly about the testing portion. It was one of my later externships and I had a lot of testing (mostly neuro) experience going in. There I learned how to sync my neuro experience with analytic/dynamic testing and philosophy- which for me was a game changer. I currently test in private practice and still get referrals from former testees or schools of these testees. The general feedback was the reports gave a much fuller picture of the child than most school/neuro batteries.

Also- if you plan on staying in NYC, the White externship will not be looked down upon in most internship settings. It is (at least) locally well respected, the supervision is great, and you will learn A LOT. Please feel free to PM me for any further info.
