anyone in this situation-

if you know exactly where you wanna go and your 99% sure they'll rank you very high (like your home institution), how many more interviews would you go on?

and past your top five, would you be happy anyway?

just wondering... 😕

We ALL wish we knew the answer to this ? !

I think it is dangerous nonetheless to play this game. In a sense, all progs (maybe your home that much more) are blowing smoke up your skirt or kilt. Every prog wants everyone to rank them 1st. You are likely correct you are a golden child at your prog, but what if you are wrong?

The idea that you wouldn't be happy with your 5th choice to me seems a little blind. I have been impressed so far with all the progs, in some way.

The really ? is "would I rather scramble than go to X?"

And really since scrambling is nearly nonexistent in gas now, the ? is "would I rather go into another field thru the scramble?"

There r so few scramble spots, I would personally rank every prog this yr. what r the odds u will successfully scramble AND into a prog u like better than your least favorite that u interviewed?

I am conservative. You will 95% likely match at your home prog, and 99% in top 5. But, think of how many people get diagnosed with rare diseases...

well, i dont know if it's so much a matter of being a "golden child" but home programs seem to tend to strongly favor their own med students, if simply for the fact that they know how these candidates work, not just on paper (provided that they are not slackers or something).

Dude,

Shot the moon! Apply to 1 program, go on 1 interview, rank 1 place and you'll have the best story of them all to tell as you cart your cajones around in a wheelbarrel. 😎 😀

well... not to brag, but when God was handing out cajones.... 😀
-ehh... it's the beer money talkin' (that's now going toward the damn flights...new underwear, etc)

In the immortal words of the Stiffmeister "You don't score untill you score". There is no such thing as an "extra interview" b/c you're not guaranteed to match anywhere untill you get that letter on match day saying, you matched

Hell yeah you can. Go out half baked syle "F you, f you, f you, f you, you're kewl, f you, I'm out" :meanie:

Good luck w/matching

What I have always heard is that if you interview at a minimum of 7 porgrams, then you will match somewhere; nevertheless, that theory is based upon suppositions from a match 2 years ago-it also depends on the sizes of the programs that you are applying to...
