Extra LOR's?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think it will hurt to add one more on top. This should mean that all 3 of your LOR's are from different perspectives or settings and are not redundant. But, even if they are; an extra one won't hurt, but it won't help you.

Thanks..that's what I was thinking. They are from three separate perspectives. I'll give it a shot.

I don't think it would hurt, but it also shows that you didn't follow directions (just throwing that out there). They may also not read it. If they wanted to read 3, they would ask for 3 IMO. That being said, if you are sending 3 to other schools and it's not a hassle, then why not.

If a school requires two letters of recommendation, would it hurt to add a third?

Add a third if you think it will be a beneficial addition to your application. The school's requirements are minimums so, unlike above, I have to disagree that it would look like you can't follow directions. In fact, with PTCAS, if one school requires 2 and another requires 3, all three are still going to be sent to all schools (I believe). I'd just caution you from going beyond 1-2 more than required.

Anecdotally, I was helping with the open house at my school a few weeks ago, and an applicant asked about having more reference letters than what PTCAS allowed for. They were told to send the letter directly to the admissions office if they thought it was a strong letter that would help the school make a decision.
