I am a MSII who is finding himself increasingly burned out and am seriously thinking about taking some time off. I'm a decent student but may or may not make AOA (50/50%). I'm currently planning to take Step I on June 21st, but if I end up taking time off I'm thinking about using some of that time to try to really do well on Step I. Has anybody heard how taking extra time to study for Step is looked at when trying to match for residency? That is, if I get a higher score will they just say well he should have as he studied longer for the test? Any thoughts, on how taking time off in general looks for residency?
I'm sure this has been discussed before but the search function is not working for me, so any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated

I don't think any program will notice how much time you spent preparing for Step 1. Are you planning on doing anything during your time off or would it be an extended vacation?

Thanks for the reply Jeebus. Just thinking about taking two months off (i.e. time of 1 3rd year rotation) for some time to travel and get my head straight. Just wondering if this will look bad down the road or will negate the improved score I may get by studying an extra couple of weeks for Step 1? Does anybody have any experience with this?
All replies are greatly appreciated
