Would you consider either extracurricular activities or pharmacy experience more important to the application process? Most of my time is split between school and work. I have not done any extracurricular activities, but have worked as a pharmacy tech in the same pharmacy for the past 4 years. Should I start doing some extracurricular activities or does my pharmacy experience cover my lack of extracurricular activities?

Any thoughts?

I would imagine that the pharmacy experience is plenty. If you want to you can always pay a couple club dues if you want to put that in your application, but it is probably not necessary. I had neither experience or extracurricular activities (outside of my family that is) and had no trouble being accepted.

I think the 4 yrs of experience is great! I do think schools like to see extracurricular activities too, is there anyway that you could work a bit less and maybe participate in some sort of volunteer organization (Salvation Army Angel Tree etc) or in some of your school clubs?

Yeah I agree with the others. I believe you're on the safe side because 4 years as a pharm tech shows you have a lot of experience in the field. However if you're really worried, do some volunteer stuff like soup kitchens or fundraisers with clubs to borden your application. But if you honestly have no time, I would say you're fine with what you have, just remember pharm schools are competitive. Good luck!

i am on the other end of the field..
I had absolutely no experience but my extracurriculars were fantastic and i had no trouble getting in.

Like someone said above... find a club, pay some dues etc.

If you volunteer, you can always write/ talk about what a great experience it was and what you learned from it and how it changed you.

Thanks for the ideas. A couple of EC would make my application more competitive. I will have to look into something when some free time opens up in my schedule.

Thanks again.

You should probably do some volunteer work. It shows that you have compassion and a willingness to help others. Everyone always SAYS that that want to help others sometime in the application process. But it is different if you can DEMONSTRATE that you want to help others. Plus it keeps your application from looking blank.
